Do you know what pressure feels like?
Well, it feels good sometimes. Mostly, though, it’s just a nag. It’s a mountain of piled expectations. It’s a goal. It’s a long-term plan that has about 15% potential. It’s a vision of the future you see yourself living. That’s what pressure is.
Sure, most of the time it’s self-inflicted; but that’s just what makes it a little less stressful than outside pressure. I’m talking about parents, grades, jobs, “friends” and other external factors that make pressure 10 times worse. I’m talking about people who believe you have more than meets the eye, and that pushing you will help you flourish and become “great”.
Why, though?
People don’t seem to understand my humble idea of what greatness is. Because to me, greatness is to have a comfortable, stable place to call home. It’s waking up to a job I won’t complain about all through the weekend. It’s smiling more, and shedding a little less than a cup of tears a year. It’s opening the window in the morning to be greeted with a cool breeze and a sunrise; winking over a large body of water. It’s a cinnamon scented candle, a winter fireplace, a good silver screen movie and a fluffy blanket. It’s plain and simple; and that, to me, is great.
That, to me, is more than enough.
