Things That Happened: Istanbul

It was a cold, rainy day in Istanbul. On the 3rd day of my visit, I decided to take a walk around the boutique hotel I was staying at. The area surrounding it was a bohemian land full of antique stores, little cafes and vintage clothing shops. Everything felt like a scene from a book I’ve never read.

People were friendly. More friendly than I expected, and I think I owe that to my Turkish genes that left me pale and familiar to the locals. I thought my late grandmother would’ve loved it, too. She was in my thoughts throughout the entire trip. She also managed to appear as a little boutique shop called Leila. I had to get me something from there.

After having spent all day walking around the small streets of Istanbul and getting lost in some mesmerizing places, it started to get too cold and rainy to stay out – so I decided to go back to the hotel.

When I got back, I made me a cup of tea and decided to sit in the little balcony, breathing in the oh so calming smell of rain and winter. That’s when the most amazing thing happened!

As I watched the raindrops fall from the sky, it’s as if someone started slowing the reel of life and the drops started falling slower and slower with each second! In front of my eyes, I witnessed the raindrops transform into snowflakes that landed on my face…

They felt so light and cold. Like little fairy kisses comforting my amazement at what I had just witnessed.. I don’t think I’ve ever been impressed by Mother Nature like I had on that small balcony in Istanbul.
